Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

Aquest dissabte, 16 de març, ha tingut lloc la 35a Cursa Científica de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, un esdeveniment en què, un any més, uns 200 corredors i corredores han pogut viure l’experiència de recórrer els antics pavellons del Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau.
L’objectiu d’aquesta cursa, que neix el 1989 amb un total de més de 2.000 participants, consisteix a conscienciar la població sobre els beneficis de l’activitat física per a la salut de les persones, fins i tot, en aquelles que presenten patologies cardíaques i oncològiques, sempre que s’adeqüi a les seves edats i característiques.
Com a novetat, l’edició d’enguany, ha comptat amb la participació de Mar Mesa, dorsal número 1 de la cursa i persona trasplantada de cor fa vint-i-cinc anys, qui, de fet, ha estat l’encarregada de fer el tret de sortida juntament amb l’atleta olímpica de llarga distància Marta Galimany.
La cursa, organitzada per Sant Pau dins el marc de #MésComunitat, un dels eixos estratègics de l’Hospital, així com per la Fundació Cors Units, ha comptat amb la col·laboració del Centre d’Alt Rendiment de Sant Cugat, Clubs DiR i Championchip.
