Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

Aquest divendres, 14 de juny a les 17:30 h, l’Església de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (C/ Sant Antoni M. Claret, 167) acollirà un concert commemoratiu amb motiu del desè i cinquè aniversari respectivament de les corals Canta Sant Pau i Parkinsongs.
L’any 2014, Sant Pau crea la primera coral amb persones amb afàsia de tot l’Estat arran de l’interès d’aquests pacients de donar continuïtat al tractament de musicoteràpia amb el que havien estat tractats després d’haver patit un dany cerebral agut. Per la seva banda, la coral ParkinSongs, creada el 2019, està formada per pacients amb Parkinson, així com per algunes persones acompanyants.
L’objectiu d’ambdues corals, constituïdes a través del Servei de Neurologia de l’Hospital, i amb el suport de l’Escola Clínica de Neuropsicologia i Patologia del Llenguatge i l’Institut de Recerca Sant Pau, consisteix a minimitzar les dificultats de comunicació produïdes per ambdues patologies a través del cant, treballant així aspectes de la veu i del llenguatge afectats. A més, cantar en grup aporta nombrosos beneficis socials i emocionals per tots els integrants.
