Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

El Dr. Alessandro Sionis, director de la Unitat Coronària del Servei de Cardiologia de l’Hospital de Sant Pau, ha estat nomenat recentment president electe de l’Association for Acute Cardiovascular Care (ACVC), entitat científica que pertany a la Societat Europea de Cardiologia. Actualment, també és codirector del Comitè de Congressos i Esdeveniments de l’ACVC.
El Dr. Sionis ocuparà el càrrec de president electe fins al 2026, quan passarà a assumir automàticament el càrrec de president de l’ACVC. L’Association for Acute Cardiovascular Care és una organització multidisciplinària creada durant el Congrés de la Societat Europea de Cardiologia de l’any 2012 que centra les seves activitats en l’abordatge de la malaltia cardiovascular aguda, des de l’episodi cardíac fins a l’estabilització del pacient.
