Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

Dimecres, 20 de desembre, la sala d’actes de l’Hospital va acollir, un any més, l’acte de reconeixement al voluntariat de Sant Pau, una jornada de reconeixement a totes les persones i entitats voluntàries vinculades a l’Hospital que pretén agrair la seva tasca diària de cara a garantir el bon funcionament del centre.
El seu paper és clau pel bon desenvolupament de diferents activitats assistencials de l’Hospital, així com d’acompanyament, informació i suport psicosocial pels pacients, humanitzant així la seva atenció i seguint un dels eixos vertebradors del pla estratègic Més Sant Pau: l’empatia.
L’acte de reconeixement d’ahir va ser inaugurat per la Dra. Xènia Acebes, directora assistencial de l’Hospital, així com per Maria Lacueva i Melinda Jiménez, directora infermera i cap de la Unitat de Treball Social i Programa de Voluntariat de Sant Pau respectivament.
Durant el seu transcurs, diferents responsables de les entitats vinculades al Programa de Voluntariat de Sant Pau van presentar les seves activitats dins el marc del Programa. A més, tots els voluntaris presents a l’acte van poder gaudir d’una divertida actuació d’Impro Show.
L’acte de reconeixement va finalitzar amb una copa de cava d’agraïment per acabar de desitjar unes bones festes a tots els presents.
