Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

Investigadors de Sant Pau i del CSIC descriuen el mecanisme pel qual els pacients amb variant genetica al cromosoma 4q25 presenten major incidencia a patir fibrillacio auricular
L’estudi demostra que la propensió a la fibril·lació auricular, el tipus més comú d’arítmia cardíaca i amb una elevada morbiditat, es deguda a una alteració de la regulació del calci intracel·lular.
Aquesta publicació obre les portes a un estudi prospectiu amb fàrmacs que modulen l’alliberació del calci intracel·lular per tal de tractar aquesta arítmia.
Aquest treball científic s’ha publicat recentment a la revista Cardiovascular Research i està liderat per investigadors de l’IIB Sant Pau, del CSIC i del CIBERCV. Compta amb la col·laboració dels Serveis de Cardiologia i Cirurgia Cardíaca de Sant Pau, la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya i la de Universitat de Jaén.
