Thoracic Surgery
Thymic tumors are rare, and the most common type is thymoma, which grows slowly but is malignant in nature. Their prognosis depends on the degree of invasion and the possibility of complete resection. The scarcity of cases means that clinical experience is limited and scattered, and the available literature is mainly based on retrospective series and single-center data, making it difficult to compare results due to a lack of unified classifications.
At the national level, the Thoracic Surgery Service and the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit, led by Dr. Isabel Illa, have been a reference in the treatment of these tumors and the associated paraneoplastic syndromes, creating the country’s first multidisciplinary thymic tumor committee. As a result of this experience, the Update Course on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thymic Tumors has been organized, with its 4th edition taking place on October 16 and 17, aimed at all professionals involved in their multidisciplinary care.

L’Hospital de Sant Pau ha presentat diverses comunicacions orals al 50th Annual Meeting of EBMT (European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation), el congrés mundial més important en aquest àmbit que ha tingut lloc aquest abril amb més de 5.000 experts. Un d’aquests treballs ha estat premiat amb l’EBMT Pharmacists Abstract Award, on hi ha participat els Serveis d’Hematologia, Bioquímica i Farmàcia.
La comunicació oral guardonada és un treball multidisciplinari desenvolupat pels Serveis d’Hematologia i Hemoteràpia, Bioquímica i Farmàcia i l’Institut de Recerca Sant Pau (IR Sant Pau) amb el títol “Development and Clinical Validation of Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Individualised Ruxolitinib Adjustment in future cases of Steroid-Refractory graft-versus-host disease”. L’encarregada de recollir el premi ha estat la Dra. Sara Redondo, metgessa adjunta del Servei d’Hematologia Clínica de Sant Pau.
En el congrés de l’EBMT també han estat seleccionats tres treballs com a pòsters sobre l’ús de la salut digital en el seguiment de pacients trasplantats. Tots tres sobre el projecte multidisciplinari desenvolupat pels Serveis d’Hematologia, Farmàcia i Dietètica d’implementació de la salut mòbil MyMedula al pacient receptor d’un trasplantament de moll d’os, actualment en fase d’assaig clínic, el primer d’aquest tipus que es duu a terme a Espanya, emmarcat en l’Equip d’Impuls Digital de l’Àmbit d’impuls a l’estratègia i transformació de Sant Pau i promogut per l’Institut de Recerca Sant Pau (IR Sant Pau).
El primer, “Mobile Health in the Management of Allogenics Stem Cell Transplant Recipients (MyMedula Study): Preliminary Results of the Clinical Trial”. El segon, “Nursing Roles in Implementing eHealth for Allogenic Stem Cell-Transplant Recipients: Initial Findings from the MyMedula Study’s Randomized Clinical Trial”. I, el tercer, “Evaluation of Mental Health through an eHealth Platform in the Management of Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant Recipients (MyMedula Study): Descriptive Analysis”.
Els altres estudis de Sant Pau que han estat seleccionats al 50 Congrés de l’EBMT, s’han centrat en l’ús del fàrmac ciclofosfamida post trasplantament. El primer, seleccionat com a pòster, sobre la reducció d’aquest medicament en aquests pacients i amb el títol “Efficacy and Safety of Reduced-Doses of Post-Transplant Cyclophosphamide in Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation outside the Haploidentical Setting”. I, el segon, com a comunicació oral de Farmàcia, titulat “Post-Transplant Cyclophosphamide Practical Aspects”, de l’Estela Moreno, adjunta del Servei de Farmàcia de l’Hospital de Sant Pau.
