Catchment area
This section shows the Hospital’s territorial and healthcare impact during 2025. With a direct catchment area covering more than 431,000 inhabitants of Barcelona, the data reflects the demographic reality of our surroundings, the activity carried out according to patients’ profiles and Sant Pau’s role as a leading centre in healthcare, teaching and research.
Territory
The Hospital’s direct catchment area covers five municipal districts of Barcelona, with a total area of 101.35 km². To ensure accessibility and continuity of care for this population, the centre’s activity is territorially coordinated with a network of 10 Primary Care Centres (CAP) and 16 Primary Care Teams (EAP).
Hospital discharges by age and sex
Healthcare activity shows a clear prevalence of patients over 65 years of age, in line with the demographic ageing of the area. This age group accounts for more than half of total hospital discharges, 55.79%, with a slightly higher volume among women.
