Pelvic Floor Functional Unit (PFFU)

The Pelvic Floor Functional Unit (PFFU) is an initiative of Hospital de Sant Pau, ASSIR Guinardó, and Hospital Dos de Maig. This new functional unit aims to become a gold standard in Catalonia and in Spain in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD). To achieve this goal, it will provide multidisciplinary, multi-professional, and multimodal care of the highest quality, and will promote research and teaching, increase visibility of the disorder, and incorporate the patient’s point of view into care.

 

Objectives:

  • Provide multidisciplinary, multi-professional, and multimodal care of the highest quality to patients with PFD, focusing on the person:
  • Simplify the organization of care.
  • Improve patient-care circuits.
  • Optimize the shared therapeutic strategy.
  • Become a gold-standard unit in Catalonia and Spain that identifies Hospital de Sant Pau as a tertiary hospital for treating this disorder
  • Promote research activities linked to PFD.
  • Promote the development of research projects with a translational orientation.
  • Promote the development of research projects with a translational orientation.
  • Promote teaching activities linked to PFD. Organization of a regular course with the aim of making it a benchmark.
  • Increase social awareness and give visibility to this disorder by disseminating the results of the unit’s activity.
  • Incorporate the patient’s point of view into care of the condition by means of contacts and shared activities with associations, organized by the patients themselves (ADOPEC, ASIA, etc.).
  • Draw up a Protocol for the Care of Women with PFD adapted to the organization in a Functional Unit.
  • Develop informational material aimed at patients and professionals.
  • Include audiovisual material and links to consensus documentation.
  • Improve the experience of patients in the unit by personalizing care.
  • Create a culture of interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Improve internal communication between all the members of the team. Facilitate the introduction of potential improvements to the circuits.
  • Improve external communication with patients and professionals external to the Hospital unit and external agents from other levels of care, especially ASSIR and other hospitals.
  • Improve our data recording system by ensuring correct coding. Record activity in a way that makes it possible to exploit the data and evaluate the activity carried out.
  • Plan investments strategically.

The Pelvic Floor Functional Unit (PFFU) is a transversal unit made up of professionals from the main departments that take part in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pelvic floor dysfunctions.
